Supercomputing 2009 took place in the beautiful city of Austin, Texas. This year was a challenge for everyone at the Microsoft booth as we had to ship very heavy servers and place them carefully at the show floor so that they would be at the right temperature.
ScorpioTek had to integrate 30+ servers to be able to be utilized as on-site clusters running Microsoft HPC Server 2008. These clusters were then segregated and assigned to various teams in order for them to run their demos.
The infrastructure had to include a domain controller and a NAT server through which the nodes would be able to access the Internet all while remaining in a private network for security reasons.
The show as a complete success and Microsoft was able to educate a mostly Linux driven event on the opportunities and benefits of running HPC clusters on the Windows platform.
